Breaking Ice

This juried, multi-media exhibition seeks to bring to public attention the scope and influence of the African Diaspora on all facets of Bay Area life and culture using the imagery of art to “break the ice” in order to stimulate a dialogue between artists and viewers. Reflecting the global reach of the African Diaspora, in the Bay Area a cross-cultural art community has emerged that extents beyond nationalism and ethnicity to, instead, focus on ideology and global impact in order to create works of art that address contemporary issues of the Diaspora: politics, war, poverty, famine, disease, AIDS, religious cosmology, beauty.
